Tilba Heritage Renovation Home
Located on the main street of the historic town of Tilba, this renovation home project was a labor of love for JJK Constructions Co. One of the original cottages in the area, the home was in dire condition with rotten piers, termite damage, and mold threatening its structure. Without intervention, it would have been condemned within 12-18 months.
Collaborating closely with an architect, we rebuilt the original cottage, carefully restoring it to its former glory while adding a modern extension that complements its historical charm. In keeping with the heritage style, every design decision was made with sensitivity to the era, ensuring the new spaces honoured the home’s storied past.
A standout feature of the project was salvaging original Baltic pine lining boards during demolition. These boards were repurposed to create a stunning timber-clad wall and a custom-built bench seat by the fireplace, preserving a tangible connection to the original cottage.
The home’s flooring was upgraded with beautiful spotted gum, adding warmth and durability, while the client was guided through the design and fit-out process to achieve a seamless blend of functionality and heritage aesthetics.
Despite the challenges, this heritage renovation was completed with precision and care. The finished home stands as a testament to JJK Constructions Co’s commitment to excellence, offering a harmonious balance of historical reverence and modern living.
